CRE-sources President Debbie Colangelo Participates In JDRF Broward 2014 Walk To Cure Diabetes

CRE-sources President Debbie Colangelo will be participating in the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Broward 2014 Walk To Cure Diabetes on April 5th.
Debbie’s daughter Kristen was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on Valentine’s Day in 2007 at the age of 10.

“The diagnosis really didn’t take hold until we spent the next 5 days in the hospital.  I had NO idea what this disease required,” Debbie stated.  “My head swam.  Checking blood every 2 hours…day and night, injecting my little girl with insulin up to 6 times a day – sometimes two different insulins, sometimes one, depending on what time of the day it is, preparing menus and carb counts for 6 meals a day, measuring everything that goes into her mouth.”

“And then came the ‘what happens when’ – What happens when I need a babysitter? What happens when she goes to camp? What happens when she wants to sleep overnight at a friend’s house,” she continued.
Type 1 Diabetes can become completely overwhelming at times. Knowing that this is a disease that these children will never outgrow is overwhelming. It’s a disease that has to be dealt with day by day…bite by bite.
Take a moment to think about the those families that are affected by this disease. It’s difficult to say the least… but they still have to do whatever it takes to manage it. These families need you.  JDRF needs you.  All of these kids…THEY need you.
Can you help support Debbie’s efforts?
