BankUnited Expands HQ By 20,000 SF

BankUnited is expanding its headquarters in Miami Lakes by 20,000 square feet.
The bank (NYSE: BKU) currently leases 120,672 square feet in five buildings. The new property is in a separate building nearby.
BankUnited signed the lease with the Graham Cos., which is also a large client of the bank.
“BankUnited is growing at a rate you just don’t see in banking anymore,” BankUnited Chairman, President and CEO John Kanas stated in a news release. “We are seeing more of our growth fueled by the improving Florida economy and through this expansion we will be well positioned to continue to serve our customers and take advantage of future opportunities.”
BankUnited’s staff has increased to 1,437 on March 31, up from 1,320 a year earlier. Over the same time its assets grew to $12.6 billion, from $11.6 billion.
The company said it plans to open six Florida branches this year. It recently opened four branches in New York.
