Bricks And Mortar Retailers Win Round In Tax Battle

The Florida Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee voted Tuesday morning to approve measures that would help ensure sales taxes are collected on products bought on the internet or via mail order.
Traditional brick-and-mortar retailers have supported such as move, while Internet-only retailers have been resisting.
The legislation (SB 316) is sponsored by Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, and Sen. Gwen Margolis, D-Miami.
Florida TaxWatch and the Florida Retail Federation have been urging this type of legislation.
“TaxWatch looks forward to working with legislators and the governor to ensure this needed reform is done in a responsible and revenue-neutral way, and hopes that the House of Representatives will take similar action,” TaxWatch CEO Dominic M. Calabro said.
