CREC Grows Retail Team With Former Simon Property Group Broker

As national brands expand their presence in South Florida and consumers gravitate toward immersive shopping and dining experiences, one of Florida’s largest retail brokerage firms is expanding its leasing practice with the addition of a major assignment and a senior broker.
CREC has added Rafael Romero, formerly of Simon Property Group, as an Associate Vice President. Romero arrives at CREC fresh off of leasing assignments at Dadeland Mall and the Shops at Sunset Place, two of Simon’s marquee properties in Miami.
In his role as Associate Vice President, he will specialize in leasing lifestyle centers on behalf of property owners and will play an integral role in building the firm’s lifestyle retail portfolio across Florida. Chief among his assignments will be spearheading the leasing for the retail component of Downtown Dadeland, a 127,000-square-foot shopping and dining destination located directly across from Dadeland Mall in Miami’s Kendall submarket, a new addition to CREC‘s leasing portfolio.

“Creating value for lifestyle retail centers means knowing how to correctly position a property in the marketplace while helping brands connect with consumers in a unique, urban setting,” said CREC President and Co-Founder Carol Brooks. “Our leasing and management program for Downtown Dadeland will give the property a new sense of place through physical improvements, consumer events and new tenants. Rafael’s addition to the CREC team brings us additional market expertise and sets us up for continued growth in the lifestyle segment.”

Based in the firm’s Coral Gables headquarters, Romero will work on the leasing of several of the retail assets within CREC’s leasing portfolio. He will also support new business development by pursuing the representation of additional shopping and lifestyle centers in Florida. CREC’s commercial real estate portfolio already consists of 11.4 million square feet of properties spanning across submarkets in South and Central Florida.
