Developer Lays Down $14M To Turn Roller Coaster Into Major Retail Project

The big retail project in Dania Beach that could bring down the abandoned wooden roller coaster took another step forward with a $14 million acquisition.

An 18.6-acre site at 181 S. Bryan Road, just south of the roller coaster and the go-kart track, was sold by Betty Pegram’s Florida Silica Sand Co. The buyer was Dania Live 1748 LLC, which shares the New Hyde, N.Y. address of Kimco Realty Corp.
It appears that Kimco is the joint venture partner of Bob Shapiro’s Master Development in Aventura. Shapiro is seeking city approval for the 1.3-million-square-foot DaniaLive Marketplace, an open air shopping center with big box stores, restaurants, a hotel and apartments.
Dania Live 1748 recently acquired a neighboring site for $2.95 million, but it has more parcels to scoop up before it reaches the desired 100 acres Shapiro wants for the project. It’s possible he could acquire the site of the Boomers amusement complex and close it to make way of the shopping center.
