Dramatic Waterfront Development Coming To Palm Beach Gardens?

The sandy ambience of longtime waterfront restaurant Panama Hattie’s and its adjacent Rum Bar may be exchanged for a trendy mix of restaurants, shops, a marina and condominiums.
Nick Mastroianni, developer of the Harbourside project in Jupiter, has submitted plans for a similar project at PGA Boulevard and Ellison Wilson Road.
Mastroianni’s plans call for four waterside restaurants, retail, office space, a marina and condominiums.
“There’s no public waterfront in the Gardens, so we’ve come up with a plan that gives the public access to the waterfront, preserves that access to the waterfront with public use and public space and real, important social value,” Mastroianni told WPBF 25 News.
The project, like Harbourside, would not be gated. The marina would also be partially public.
Mastroianni said he has a contract to purchase Panama Hattie’s from the owner and that it is expected to close in August. He has already purchased one parcel to the south of the restaurant and has contracts on several more, for a total of almost eight acres.
Palm Beach Gardens planners said they must now get approvals for various aspects of the project before a staff review begins.
Planners said it could be as long as eight months before the project comes before the City Council for consideration.
