Santander Breaks Ground On 50-Story 1401 Brickell By Santander Office Tower

Santander is moving ahead with a major new office development in Miami, underscoring continued confidence in Brickell as a financial center. The bank has broken ground on 1401 Brickell by Santander, a 50-story mixed-use tower planned to total about 1.6 million square feet, with completion targeted for 2029.

The project will serve as a new hub for Santander’s Miami operations, including its private banking business, while also offering office space for outside tenants. Plans call for retail, dining and wellness uses, along with seven levels of amenities and a sky-terrace restaurant overlooking Brickell Avenue. Santander has positioned the tower as both a long-term investment in South Florida and a physical anchor for its broader growth in the U.S. and across Latin America.

The groundbreaking also reflects how aggressively the bank has expanded its South Florida presence in recent years. Santander has cited Miami’s long-standing importance to its U.S. business, noting its private banking roots in the city date back decades, while more recent moves have included a Work Café in Coconut Grove, an Openbank location at Miami Worldcenter and additional ATM expansion across the region.

The tower adds another high-profile office project to Brickell at a time when premier space in Miami’s urban core continues to draw major financial and professional services users. The building is designed by Handel Architects in collaboration with Bernardi & Peschard Arquitectura and is expected to emphasize sustainability, energy efficiency, security and connectivity.
