Doral Approves Land-Use Change
The Doral City Council unanimously approved the “Doral Design District Core” future land-use designation last Wednesday for 185 acres within the district, an area historically known for its tile and marble showrooms. The core area is bounded by Northwest 37th Street to the north, 25th Street to the south, 82nd Avenue to the west and the Palmetto Expressway to the east.
The council’s approval opens the door for commercial, institutional, municipal and high-density residential development. The core’s previous land-use designation only allowed industrial uses.
The district core now has the capacity to develop a maximum of 925 residential units and nearly 6 million square feet. The area is fully developed, so redevelopment would be needed to reach those levels.
