Downtown Miami Macy’s In Play As A Potential Site For New Courthouse

Dade voters will soon vote on whether or not to issue bonds to finance a new courthouse, but the exact location of the new building is still up in the air.
To date, the most active negotiations have been with All Aboard Florida, but the county has been negotiating with several other private developers.
The county has held preliminary talks with the owner of the downtown Macy’s building, which will soon be vacant after the retailer moves to Miami Worldcenter. Early talks have also been held with the owner of 54 West Flagler Street, an 18,000 square foot surface parking lot across from the current courthouse.
The 54 West Flagler Street site, which s zoned T6-80-O, allowing mixed uses such as office, hotel, residential and retail, is being marketed by Miami Urban Core expert advisor Mika Mattingly.
Another possibility that officials have been analyzing would be to place the new building on one of several sites that the county already owns.
