Miller Construction Company Completes Liberty Property Trust’s 140,685 SF Metrorail Train Assembly Facility

With Miller Construction Company’s completion of a build-to-suit facility in Medley for developer Liberty Property Trust, assembly of sleek new Miami Metrorail cars will soon be underway by the building’s tenant.
The 140,685-square-foot structure’s slab design and construction created concrete pits to allow for assembly work underneath the train cars, according to Miller Senior Vice President Brian Sudduth. Complex mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems support the facility’s above- and below-ground level assembly operations. It’s the latest in the construction services and design/build firm’s portfolio of highly specialized industrial projects, which have ranged from mission-critical manufacturing and TV broadcast studios, to flight simulation facilities.

“In handling a unique build-to-suit challenge, Miller has served our client as if it were their own,” said Andy Petry, Liberty Property Trust vice president/South Florida city manager. “From customizing a complex timeline to making tough decisions, Miller consistently acts in our client’s best interest.”

The railcar contractor for Miami-Dade County is slated to manufacture and assemble 136 new Metrorail cars at the facility. The building is located within Liberty Property Trust’s 125-acre Miami International Tradeport business park, at 11150 NW 122 Street, close to Miami International Airport and Port Miami. The tilt-wall, built-to-suit facility was designed by RLC Architects of Boca Raton. Civil engineering was provided by Ludovici and Orange Consulting Engineers, structural engineering by DDA Engineers and MEP Engineering by FAE Consulting.
Miller Construction Company previously partnered with Liberty Property Trust on the 160,000-square-foot Huntington Square III office building in Miramar.
