Miller Construction Renovating Iconic Coral Gables Office Building

Miller Construction Company has begun extensive renovations to the Columbus Center office building. The multi-million-dollar project includes updates to the first-floor lobby, sixth-floor terrace and exterior facade.

Located at 1 Alhambra Plaza, the Columbus Center building is surrounded by local restaurants and shops and is only a short drive from Miami International Airport. Miller began the site work in January and aims to complete the project this summer.

“The renovations will add to the charm this building already brings to The City Beautiful,” said Brian Sudduth, President of Miller Construction. “The tenants’ needs are always a priority for us, and we provided a great solution for those who work in the building to ease what normally is a stressful process.”

Improvements will be made to the common lobby on the first floor, administrative offices, elevator cabs and existing tenant rooftop terrace on the sixth floor. The rooftop terrace will be fitted with three Syzygy pergolas with motorized louvers that can be adjusted to let in light or offer coverage.

Additionally, Miller Construction will be installing synthetic turf, custom storage cabinets and modern furniture to the highly amenitized terrace. Minor changes will be made to the exterior façade as well.

Miller’s preconstruction team was essential during the planning process, ensuring the building can remain open during the renovations. Miller built a pathway for tenants to enter and exit the building freely with the use of adjustable paneling partitions.

The project team also includes CallisonRTKL (Architects), RGD Engineers (MEP), Jezerinac Group (Structural) and Kimley Horn (Civil).
