Newgard Development Group Joins Miami Worldcenter With Plans For Mixed-Use Tower
Newgard Development Group has joined the team of builders at Miami Worldcenter with plans for a mixed-use tower.
Located on 27 acres on the north side of downtown Miami, the $1.7 billion Miami Worldcenter is already slated for a 765,000-square-foot mall, the 512-unit Paramount condominium, a 429-unit apartment building by ZOM, and a Marriott Marquis hotel and convention center by MDM Group.
Now, Miami-based Newgard has submitted plans to the city for a mixed-use tower that, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, would include market-rate apartments, plus an as-yet undetermined use. The size of this tower hasn’t been finalized.
Led by Harvey Hernandez, Newgard’s new projects include the BrickellHouse condominium, the Centro condominium in Miami, the Gale Boutique Hotel & Residences in Fort Lauderdale, and the One Flagler office condominium. Previous projects include Solaris on Brickell and Douglas Place.
“Miami Worldcenter is in the final stretch of the planning and approval process, with construction set to begin in the third quarter of this year,” said Nitin Motwani, managing principal for master developer Miami Worldcenter Associates. “We have a world-class team of developers bringing a first-of-its-kind project to Miami, and everything we’re hearing from our community, our residential buyers and international retailers points to pent-up demand for what we’re delivering.”
Nate Forbes, managing partner of the Forbes Co., said there is strong interest in the project from brands looking to come to downtown Miami. Forbes Co. is co-developing the retail along with Miami Worldcenter Associates and Taubman. Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s will be the anchor tenants.
The developers have resolved most of the litigation concerning the project. They are still trying to finalize city approval to use tens of millions of dollars in its real estate taxes to fund infrastructure for the project.
