DCOTA's Gone To The Dogs
Good news for animal lovers: a prominent pet website will soon ‘leash up’ their new headquarters at the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA), a distinctive 30-acre, three-building Class A corporate center in Dania Beach.
Chewy.com LLC, an online retailer featuring pet food, treats and supplies, has leased 15,000 square feet on the 3rd floor of the “B” Building at 1855 Griffin Road for its corporate offices. The company, which is currently located at 200 SW 1st Avenue in downtown Fort Lauderdale, expects to relocate in June.
Keith Edelman and Scott Goldstein of JLL represented the tenant in the long-term leasing transaction, while John Criddle of Cushman & Wakefield of Florida, as well as Marc Horowitz of Cohen Brothers Realty, represented the building’s ownership.
According to Mr. Criddle, exclusive office leasing agent for DCOTA, the 775,000-square-foot property’s central location, amenities and close proximity to major highways were key factors for the growing website.
“As web-based companies and technology firms continue to gain a foothold in the South Florida marketplace, we are seeing a strong uptick in leasing activity from digital brands, both big and small,” Criddle said, noting that the new deal comes on the heels of a flurry of leasing transactions at the complex, including a 11,500 square-foot lease for digital animation firm Magic Leap and a 10,000-square-foot lease for medical software company Orthosenor, Inc.
DCOTA is located along I-95 just south of the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
Founded in 2011 by Ryan Cohen and Michael Day, Chewy.com has transitioned from a small start-up into a national online retailer that sells more than 300 different brands of pet food and supplies. In addition, the website offers a pet shelter and rescue network designed to support non-profit organizations that help animals in-need through donations, fundraising and visibility opportunities.
